THE CARSON CITY MINT

Carson-City-Mint

The Carson City Mint was founded in 1870 and quickly began producing gold coins.

Throughout its 23 years of operation, from 1870 to 1893, it created three denominations of gold coins for circulation:

The $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle, the $10 Liberty Head Eagle, and the $20 Liberty Head Double.

These are the only gold coins minted by the United States that feature the famous two-letter "CC" mintmark.

The Carson City Mint produced 19 varieties for each denomination, resulting in a remarkably low total of 57 dates across all three coin denominations, especially when compared to the large mintage outputs from the other four U.S. mints during that period.

Even circulated Carson City $5, $10, and $20 gold coins fetch premium prices!

7 REASONS WHY CARSON CITY GOLD COINS ARE SO VALUABLE

1.) RARITY

2.) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

3.) LIMITED MINTAGES

4.) DISTINCTIVE MINTMARK

5.) MARKET DEMAND

6.) INVESTMENT POTENTIAL

7.) DIVERSIFICATION

1.) RARITY:

The rarity of Carson City Gold Coins significantly impacts their value. Due to their low mintages and limited years of production, from 1870 to 1893,  some issues of Carson City gold coins are scarce to rare in ALL GRADES!

They experienced wide circulation, mass melting, and hoarding, or were lost or damaged over time, resulting in limited numbers of surviving coins today, especially in higher Uncirculated Mint State condition.

Finding well-preserved examples, especially in higher-grade Uncirculated Mint State condition is increasingly difficult. Due to their scarcity, coins in superior condition, such as AU (Almost Uncirculated) to Unc MS (Uncirculated Mint State), are more desirable and valuable to collectors and investors and command premium prices.

2.) MARKET DEMAND:

Carson City Gold Coins have developed a strong collector and investor base worldwide, leading to robust market demand.

Their historical significance, limited mintages, distinctive mintmark, and rarity drive the demand of collectors and investors alike.

This strong demand contributes to the premium value of these coins, making them exceptional investment opportunities with a consistent track record of price appreciation.

Carson City Gold coins tend to maintain their value even when the rare coin market isn't performing at peak levels due to their ongoing strong collector and investor demand.

3.) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:

Carson City Gold Coins are highly valued for their historical significance.

The Carson City Mint in Nevada maintains a pivotal part of U.S. history and U.S. gold coinage history; each coin produced there carries a unique story.

Minted during the legendary "Wild West" era from 1870 to 1893, these coins are particularly sought after by collectors and investors due to their connection to this iconic period.

4.) INVESTMENT POTENTIAL:

Carson City Gold Coins offers a unique investment opportunity when diversifying an investment portfolio that includes traditional assets like stocks and real estate.

These historic 19th-century coins not only hold the intrinsic value of gold but also possess rich historical significance and rarity that enhance their investment appeal, making them an excellent hard asset to own.

With their proven track record of consistent growth in value and price appreciation, Carson City Gold coins are an exceptional choice for investors.

5.) DIVERSIFICATION:

Investing in Carson City Gold coins offers several compelling reasons as an exceptionally wise choice to diversify a portfolio that includes traditional investments.

Over the past few decades, these coins have shown strong market performance and a solid history of price appreciation.

By adding Carson City Gold coins to your wealth-building strategy, you can preserve, store, and grow your wealth while securing a tangible hard asset that also represents rare pieces of American history, creating a lasting legacy for future generations.

6.) LIMITED MINTAGES:

Carson City Gold Coins were minted in significantly smaller quantities than other gold coins produced at other minting facilities, contributing to their rarity and making them challenging to find.

Due to their low mintage outputs, many coins were not circulated outside the Western territories, limiting collectors' opportunities to acquire and preserve them.

Along with low mintage outputs, as coins circulated, they experienced wear and damage or were melted, further decreasing their survival rates, especially in higher Uncirculated Mint State conditions.

7.) DISTINCTIVE MINTMARK:

Carson City Gold Coins are stamped with the signature "CC" mint mark, signifying their origin of production at the Carson City Mint.

Only a small fraction of U.S. $5, $10, and $20 Liberty Head gold coins can claim they bear the famous "CC" mintmark.

This mintmark, which signifies their unique origin of production, immensely enhances their desirability among collectors and investors.

The "CC" mintmark, along with the high-quality craftsmanship of these coins, significantly adds to their value and makes them stand out in rare coin collections.

THE $5 CARSON CITY HALF EAGLE

Between 1870 and 1884, as well as from 1890 to 1893, the Carson City Mint struck $5 Gold Liberty Half Eagles. The coins produced during the 1870s are scarce in all grades, with higher Mint State specimens exceptionally rare.

The 1870-CC, issued in the Carson City mints inaugural year, is the most elusive Carson City gold $5 Half-Eagle. Even pieces graded in VF (Very Fine) condition are valued between $70,000 and $100,000.

1882-CC $5 Half Eagle

THE $10 CARSON CITY EAGLE

The Carson City Mint produced three gold coin denominations, the rarest of which is the $10 Carson City Gold Liberty Head Eagle series of coins.

Coins from the 1870s are a challenge to find in any condition, while those from the 1880s and 1890s are particularly rare due to limited production. In total, only about 300,000 CC gold $10 Eagles were minted over a span of 19 years.

1890-CC $10 Eagle

The Carson City $10 Eagle was minted every year during the 1870s, with five dates issued in the 1880s and four in the 1890s.

THE $20 CARSON CITY DOUBLE EAGLE

The Carson City Mint $20 Liberty Head Double Eagle crosses over two $20 Liberty Head design types.

The Type II design was produced from 1870 to 1876, while the Type III design was produced from 1876 to 1879, 1882 to 1885, and 1889 to 1893.

The Mint produced a total of 864,000 Gold $20 Double Eagles over 19 years, with some years skipped.

Carson City's $20 Double Eagles mintage output was modest, to say the least, compared to the total number of $20 Liberty Double Eagles produced at other mints during the years between 1870 and 1893.

Carson City $20 Liberty Double Eagles graded in certified Mint State condition range from scarce to rare across all dates. There is no such thing as a "common" $20 Carson City Double Eagle.
